Wellbeing & Safeguarding

Student Wellbeing

Our approach to student well-being includes:

  •  helping children to understand their emotions and feelings better;
  •  helping children feel comfortable sharing any concerns or worries;
  •  helping children socially to form and maintain relationships;
  •  promoting self-esteem and ensuring children know that they count;
  •  encouraging children to be confident;
  •  helping children to develop emotional resilience and to manage setbacks.

Aside from our dedicated pastoral team (senior leaders, year leaders, and homeroom teachers) we also have two counsellors onsite to support student wellbeing.

Our counsellors run individual and group therapy sessions, lead assemblies, student and parent workshops and offer advice to parents.

We promote a mentally healthy environment through:

  • promoting our school values and encouraging a sense of belonging;
  • promoting pupil voice and opportunities to participate in decision-making;
  • celebrating academic and non-academic achievements;
  • providing opportunities to develop a sense of worth through taking responsibility for themselves and others;
  • providing opportunities to reflect;
  • access to appropriate support that meets their needs.

In homerooms, students take part in well-being and mindfulness activities which equips them with strategies that they can apply in and out of school time. We also offer wellbeing activities as part of the school clubs programme (e.g. mindfulness and yoga).

Safeguarding

Amnuay Silpa School (ANS) Bangkok is committed to keeping children safe in line with international expectations.

We expect all ANS community members including staff and visitors to share this commitment.

What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is a term used to denote measures to protect the health, well-being and human rights of individuals, which allow people, especially children, young people and vulnerable adults  to live free from abuse (physical, emotional and sexual), harm and neglect.

Why is Safeguarding Important?

Safeguarding is so important because abuse is still very much happening, and sadly, it is often the most vulnerable (children) who are commonly victims of abuse. Children deserve to be safe and away from harm including online. Safeguarding disclosures can lead to child protection action by a range of agencies including the school, parents, social workers, the police and other external agencies like Childline Thailand.

Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs)

What is a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)?

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is the person appointed to take lead responsibility for child protection issues in a school.

The DSL receives high-level training to an international standard in dealing with child safety and protection issues and ensures staff are up to date with their knowledge of safeguarding.

Why do we have a Designated Safeguarding Lead?

A DSL is the main point of contact for all issues. Any member of our school community (staff, students and parents) who have any concerns can contact the DSL. Staff who receive disclosures from students pass these on to the DSL. The DSL is responsible for maintaining records of all issues and actions. They have the ‘Full Picture’ so no information is missed.
