Secondary

Introduction

Welcome from the Secondary Phase Headteacher

At ANS, we believe that exceptional education begins with strong, positive relationships. In our Secondary Phase, every student is known, valued, and supported. We foster a culture of care and mutual respect—our Core Value—which helps students feel safe to take risks, ask questions, and grow both academically and personally.

Our school offers the best of both worlds: a globally recognised British curriculum delivered within an inclusive international setting, enriched by the rich cultural heritage of Thailand. This unique blend creates an environment where students are encouraged to think globally while remaining grounded in local values.

Academic excellence is central to our vision, but we go further, offering a rich and varied co-curricular programme that nurtures creativity, leadership and teamwork. From debating to drama, football to fundraising, our students develop confidence and character in every corner of school life.

We are committed to preparing our learners for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Through collaborative projects, digital fluency, critical thinking, and global awareness, students build the skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Above all, our school is a community. One where relationships, respect, and a love of learning form the foundation of everything we do.

We warmly welcome you to ANS—a school where students flourish with purpose, passion, and pride.

Curriculum

Alignment of the Thai and UK Curriculum Stages:

In addition to our International Bilingual Pathway, where all students complete a combined UK/Thai curriculum, we also offer an International Pathway throughout the Secondary Phase, starting in Year 7 (Key Stage 3), where students will learn and be challenged by the world-renowned and rigorous National Curriculum, leading to the study of IGCSEs and A Levels.

All International Bilingual Pathway students complete the full Thai curriculum and also up to eight IGCSEs, with two option choices. Students on the International Pathway focus solely on IGCSEs and can complete up to ten subjects, with four options.

At Key Stage 5, students can select the International Bilingual Pathway and take two A levels and a full Thai Diploma, or join the International Pathway and study four A levels.

Assessment at ANS is a vital part of the student learning process. It is designed to:

  • Encourage students to learn from mistakes and take pride in their work

  • Be based on a wide range of evidence, drawn from various contexts where appropriate

  • Promote meaningful dialogue between teachers and students, both oral and written

  • Use broad thresholds aligned with the UK’s current ‘life without levels’ approach

  • Identify individual strengths and areas for development, with a focus on positive achievement and motivation

  • Be supported by a range of external assessments, including ONET, IGCSEs, A Levels, IELTS, SATs, and other standardised tests

  • Inspire students to strive for higher standards and inform planning for the next steps in their learning journey

CoCurricular Provision

At ANS, we believe that education extends far beyond the academic curriculum. Our extensive co-curricular enrichment programme gives students the chance to explore passions, develop new skills, and grow into confident, well-rounded individuals.

A Whole-School Approach to Wellbeing

Our pastoral team brings together a wide network of staff who work collaboratively to support the holistic needs of our students:

  • Homeroom Teachers (Thai and International): Homeroom teachers are a daily point of contact for students, providing guidance, encouragement, and support. They build close relationships with their classes and play a key role in monitoring student wellbeing and progress.

  • Year Leaders: Each year group has a dedicated Year Leader who oversees the academic, social, and emotional development of students. They coordinate with staff and families to ensure students receive appropriate support and are thriving in all aspects of school life.

  • Counsellor: Our qualified school counsellor offers both individual and group counselling sessions, leads wellbeing workshops and assemblies, and provides guidance to parents. Their work helps students manage personal challenges, develop emotional resilience, and maintain good mental health.

  • Careers and Guidance Team: Supporting students' future aspirations, this team helps students explore their strengths, plan pathways, and reduce stress or uncertainty related to subject choices, higher education, and career decisions.

  • Nursing Team: The school nurses are available throughout the day to support students’ physical health and wellbeing. They also work closely with the pastoral team to respond to medical needs that may impact a student’s emotional or academic wellbeing.

  • Curriculum Leaders and Subject Teachers: Academic staff work closely with the pastoral team to identify students who may be struggling in the classroom. They play a vital role in supporting students' confidence, motivation, and learning engagement.

  • SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator): The SENDCo ensures that students with additional learning needs receive tailored support and appropriate accommodations. They liaise with teachers, parents, and external specialists to create inclusive learning environments.

  • Senior Leadership Team (SLT): The SLT provides strategic oversight of the pastoral care provision and ensures that student wellbeing remains a school-wide priority. They lead initiatives, allocate resources, and work closely with all stakeholders to uphold our commitment to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

Structured Support and Programmes

In addition to personalised support from the pastoral team, students benefit from:

  • Weekly PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education): These sessions provide a safe space for students to explore a wide range of important topics, including relationships, mental health, online safety, and life skills. PSHE helps build confidence, emotional literacy, and a sense of social responsibility.

  • Komodo Wellbeing (Years 9–11): This digital platform allows students to regularly check in on their wellbeing, offering staff valuable insights into how students are feeling. It enables timely and proactive support and fosters open conversations about mental health.

Personalised Support Through Our Counsellor

Our qualified counsellor plays an active and visible role in the Amnuay Silpa community, offering both individual and group counselling sessions to support student wellbeing. In addition to providing one-on-one support, the counsellor leads student assemblies, wellbeing workshops, and regular sessions for parents. Their work helps students manage personal challenges, build emotional resilience, and maintain good mental health. By fostering open communication and providing practical strategies, the counsellor ensures that students feel heard and supported, while also strengthening the partnership between home and school.

Together, this comprehensive network of support ensures that every student at ANS feels safe, supported, and empowered—both academically and personally. By investing in student wellbeing, we help young people build the confidence, resilience, and self-awareness they need to flourish in school and beyond.
